MLAs perform homas for rains

With the monsoon failing and farmers in distraught, MLAs Ramesh Bandisiddegowda and C S Puttaraju performed special pujas and homas seeking mercy of the rain god at KRS reservoir in Srirangapatna taluk in Mandya district on Wednesday.

The legislators who had arrived at the spot with their supporters participated in the puja for more than one-and-a-half hour.

A team of priests performed Ganapathy homa, Navagraha homa and other rituals. Melkote MLA Puttaraju participated with his wife. Taluk panchayat president Mahadevaswamy, APMC president B M Swami Gowda, ZP member B T Srinivas, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam executive engineer Vijaya Kumar participated in the puja.

Speaking on the occasion Ramesh Bandisiddegowda said the farmers are worried with monsoon failing as sugarcane and other crops are withering. 

Sowing activities has taken a beating and the farmers are left praying for sufficient rain.

Surprisingly, immediately after performing homa rains were experienced in and around KRS for more than half an hour raising the hopes of the farmers.
