In a shocking display of insensitivity towards the dead, a senior Uttar Pradesh cop allegedly hit an unclaimed body with his boots in Sitapur district in full public view.

The police officer, deputy superintendent of police J P Yadav, was removed from his post on Wednesday, according to official sources here.

Reports said Yadav used his boot to remove the cover from the face of the dead man as his subordinates and a large number of people watched in Basantpur village on Monday.

Brutally murdered

The body of a 35-year-old man was recovered from the fields by the villagers who informed the police. The body bore cut marks and it appeared that the man had been brutally murdered.

The act, which was aired on local news channels, was taken seriously by senior officials who took action against Yadav.

“We are investigating the matter and necessary action will be taken against the cop if he is found guilty of displaying insensitivity towards the dead body,” said the district police chief S Deepak.

Earlier also the UP police have been accused of not treating the dead with respect, and not performing the last rites of the unclaimed bodies in accordance with their religious beliefs.
