Excise personnel akin to cops KPA director

Passing out parade: Three women among 19 Dy SPs

Director of Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) Amarkumar Pandey on Friday said that excise personnel are no less than the police as every uniform services play a key role in maintaining peace and harmony in the society. He was addressing the 32nd batch of in-service excise Dy SPs (probationers), after inspecting the passing out parade at KPA ground in the city.

Said Pandey: The departments like transport and excise where staff in uniform can be seen work in tandem with their higher ups. The uniform services helps develop higher level of coordination between lower and higher cadres. Referring to excise, the officer said it’s one of the major revenue spinners to the government. Discipline and sacrifice in the line of duty holds the department in high esteem.

Recalling the words of a famous poet in Bihar who had described a freedom fighter of the land who though in 70’s, had taken part in the first freedom struggle, Pandey said- according to the poet the freedom fighter showed the valour of youth. That’s exactly what Pandey meant in his message to the passing out Dy SPs.

Joint commissioner of excise A S Vishwaroop exuded confidence that the department will exceed the target of Rs 11,500 crore of the year.  In the previous year, the department had garnered a revenue of Rs 9,800 crore against the target of Rs 9,000 crore, taking the department to second place in revenue collection.

He was happy to share that the intention behind the foundation programme had bore success with the change in attitude in officers.

L A Manjunath was the cynosure of all eyes for winning all-round best probationer trophy, best in rifle shooting and best in revolver shooting, followed by A Ravishankar indoor best probationer, Mohan Y R outdoor best probationer and T V Shylaja best lady probationer.

In all 19 Dy SPs including three women formed the passing out parade. Nine among them have been already promoted as SP and await posting. Prasanna Desai, Narendra Babu, Byatarayegowda led the platoons. M Babu from district bomb squad was the voice behind, performing the role of background voice giving every minute details of the parade.

Deputy director of the academy S N Puttamadappa, assistant directors Mastamaradi, A K Suresh and N Vishnuvardhan were present.
