B'lore: Two women drown in quarry

The tragic incident took place when Mahalakshmi (20) and Devi (24), had gone to wash their clothes in the quarry, which was full of water due to heavy rains in the last one week.

The police said, Devi fell in the quarry first and began drowning. In a bid to save the drowning Devi, Mahalakshmi too jumped into the quarry and drowned. People near the quarry rushed to their rescue, but failed to save them. The divers later fished out the bodies with the help of the police. The bodies were sent to a hospital in Vidyaranyapura for postmortem.

Both women were labourers from Tamil Nadu and were living with their families in the slums near Koodlu Gate. While Devi was a married with two children, Mahalakshmi was unmarried.
