The total strength in the Government Kannada Lower Primary School at Jangama Kannasandra village, is mere six - four boys and two girls.

Three students study in first standard, one each in third, fourth and fifth standards. These students are taught by a lone teacher.

Although lacking buses to reach the school, these children, mostly belonging to scheduled caste, attend classes everyday. The village has only 21 houses.

Worrisome move

However, the State government’s decision to close schools that have very few students, has been worrying the parents of the students of the school.

“If the State government has its way, our children will be deprived of their education. We cannot afford to send them to schools in towns.

The State government must reconsider before going ahead with its decision,” said parents here.

Kurudumale Gram Panchayat former president Kurudumale Manjunath also believes that the students have been regular at the school and they would be deprived of their right, if the government’s decision is implemented.
