Hooked to cellphone, man mowed down by train

A man was knocked down while crossing the railway track in Lingarajapuram on Saturday night. 

Jithendra Kumar, 26, was employed at a hotel near East railway station. He failed to notice the approaching train since he was talking on his cellphone using earphones.  A native of Punjab, Kumar had come to the City a few years ago in search of livelihood, the police said.  

Two arrested for murder

Two aides of Bettanagere Seena, a rowdy-sheeter, are said to have been arrested in connection with the murder of B M L Krishnappa at Dasanapura on July 25. 

Manjunath alias Bande Manja and Venkatesh, who were absconding after the incident have been arrested, sources said.  During the interrogation, the police came to know that Seena himself stabbed Krishnappa with a sword and fired at him. Besides, an assailant who was killed in the exchange of fire with Krishnappa’s gunmen was identified as Kemplinganahalli Deva, a close aide of Seena.  

Taxi driver killed

A 24-year-old taxi driver was murdered in a fight following a road accident at Nallurahalli, on Sunday evening.

The dead, Manu,  is a native of Hasan. A speeding car crashed into his cab at Nallurahalli Circle and caused some damage. An argument ensued between the driver of the car, Vijaya Sarathi, a clerk at the Accountant General’s office in the City and Manu.  In a fit of rage, Vijaya Sarathi stabbed Manu to death.
