The office bearers of the Commerce Association of Mount Carmel College were sworn in during an investiture ceremony held on the college campus recently.

The association secretaries are Aashita Poonacha, Brinda Rathi, Dhanya Arvind, Kruthi Suresh Babu, Kubra Fathima and Varsha Vijay.

The women, dressed up in coordinated green saris, looked elegant and beautiful.
The event began with an invocation song, followed by readings from the holy books — the Holy Bible, Bhagavad Gita and the Quran. This is a tradition the college has been following for years. The association was formed in the year 1982-83 and it nurtures students to work together as a team with co-operation, integrity and responsibility.

The lamp was lit in the presence of principal Sr Juanita, the dean of the commerce department Josephine Rosario and the vice president of the association.

Juanita felicitated the secretaries with a badge and she spoke about how important it is to handle every task given with a sense of commitment and responsibility.

The newly-formed secretaries believe in practising what they learn. They believe in discovering every student’s potential and helping them develop their communication skills. They expose the students to a professional environment.

The secretaries presented a plan for the year 2012-13, which highlighted all the activities and programmes in the agenda, including intra-collegiate fest ‘Under Currents’ and the inter-collegiate fest ‘Cross Currents.’

These fests have competitions such as those determining the best manager, business quizzes and many other exciting events which not only give the students confidence, but plenty of exposure as well.

The programme concluded with a performance by the Commerce Dance
Association.
