Women and Child Development Minister Kalakappa G Bandi on Tuesday told the Legislative Council that the State government would await the response of the orphanage head and police reports before taking action against the management of a Bijapur government orphanage whose inmates were molested on July 27.
Replying to Leader of the Opposition S R Patil, Bandi in his statement said the department’s deputy director (Bijapur) had issued notice to the orphanage head.
Following a related FIR registered in Gol Gumbaz police station of the district, two suspects, Gowdappa and Somappa, have already been arrested, said Bandi.
In the Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Minister R Ashoka said he would direct the Bijapur SP to conduct a thorough inquiry into the case.
Four girls from a district orphanage in the town, aged between 12 and 13, were allegedly molested by two men last Friday night when they were returning to the orphanage after partaking a charity dinner hosted by a group of Ayyappa devotees.
