Syndicate meetings Govt to write to BU

Last Updated 07 August 2012, 20:16 IST

Higher Education Department Principal Secretary Siddaiah on Tuesday said that the government would write to the Bangalore University vice-chancellor to convene the syndicate meeting at the earliest to discuss various issues concerning students as well as administration.

Siddaiah said the University, which should hold syndicate meetings on a regular basis, has almost stopped the practice. Key issues and decisions would have to be taken by the Syndicate to improve the academic atmosphere on the campus, he said.  The government would be compelled to approach the chancellor for appropriate action if the varsity does not conduct meetings even after the directions, he said, but refused to specify the action expected from the chancellor.

“Let us hope things improve following the ministers’ visit and the government writing to the varsity to improve the working environment. If no action is taken, we will be constrained to approach the chancellor,” he said. Higher Education Minister C T Ravi and Law Minister Suresh Kumar found the varsity hostels in deplorable condition during their visit on Monday.
