Gowda plans book on his 50-yr career

Reminiscing the various bittersweet moments of his political life in the last 50 years, JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda said all his life’s experiences would be chronicled candidly in his autobiography.

“I will not leave out or hide anything,” he said, after being felicitated by the Bangalore City unit of the JD(S) on Saturday. Gowda, who thanked his counterparts in politics and his family members for his achievements, said there were no black marks in his career graph, only because he was surrounded by “good officials”. He said he never expected to become prime minister of the country.

“I was very particular that I serve as the chief minister of the State for five years. But at the CPM politburo meeting, it was decided that I should be appointed as the prime minister. It was a bitter sweet development. But if I hadn’t become the prime minister, I wouldn’t have understood politics in the national scenario.”

Retired IAS officer Meenakshi Sundaram, writer Patil Puttappa, JD(S) leaders M C Nanaiah and P G R Sindhia paid rich tributes to Gowda. While his wife Chennamma was present during the occasion, his sons H D Kumaraswamy and H D Revanna did not make it.
