An elderly  woman was stabbed to death and her husband was injured when three burglars barged into their house in Chhawala in south-west Delhi in the wee hours of Monday.

Krishna, of Roshan Vihar block A, was in her first-floor room when her husband Jagdish Chand, 65, heard her screaming at 2 am.

“When he rushed into her room, he saw two men, aged 25 to 26, attacking Krishna with a knife, while another man was ransacking the room. Then they turned on Jagdish,” a police official said.

The burglars inflicted knife wounds on Jagdish and beat him up with a hockey stick before fleeing with cash, jewellery and some documents.

Despite being injured, he managed to go downstairs to inform his son Manoj, who called police. “When we reached the spot, Krishna’s body was lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit. Krishna and Jagdish were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” the official added.

Jagdish, who works as a peon in Rao Mohar Singh Memorial School in Najafgarh, was discharged after first-aid. Police handed over Krishna’s body to her family after a post-mortem.

A case has been filed with Chhawala police station. “The accused left behind the hockey stick used to attack Jagdish, so we are trying to gather fingerprints and use them in the probe,” the official said.

Police also questioned Krishna’s family members, relatives and neighbours. The role of some known persons is suspected as it seemed the accused knew the house well.
