Mild tremours in Arakalgud

Richter scale measures 3.6; small cracks in houses

The residents of Arakalgud town and other surrounding villages on Thursday morning woke up to rumbling vessles and ran out of fear to save their lives.

Mild tremours in Arakalgud and 20 km in the surrounding areas has created fear and anxiety among the residents.

It is said that the residents experienced mild tremours at 6.20 am on Thursday  when the household articles and vessels rolled off from the shelves. The people also experienced a swaying effect and immediately ran out of their houses out of fear.

The earthquake is said to have recorded 3.6 in the richter scale and the epicentre is identified to be Mudigere village in the district. 

The villages situated in the backwaters of Hemavathy dam is also said to have experienced mild tremours. Small cracks were found in a few houses in the village.

Tremours were observed in Beejaghatta, Mallipattana, Vijapura aranyagrama, Hulikal, Kathimallenahalli, Arakalgud town, Kellur, Sathemaruru and other villages, according to residents. 

Sakleshpur assistant commissioner Pallavi Akurathi and tahsildar Jagadish visited the villages along with revenue officials.
