Further, he said, while the work on coal handling berth for thermal plant was nearing completion, the Rs 300 crore mechanical iron ore loading facility at the cargo berth had been awarded to Sical Infrastructure.
Detailing the performance of NMPT , Tamilvanan said, the port during the fiscal year 2008-09, handled a record traffic of 36.69 million tonnes as against 36.02 million tonnes in the previous year, registering a growth of 1.68 per cent.
