A legend on stage

The veteran singer who has enchanted several people with his voice, S P Balasubramanium, was honoured and awarded by the ‘Shree Sai Gold Palace’ and the ‘Adarsh Suguma Sangitha’ recently.

Many other veterans like Chandrashekar Kambhar and noted guitarist as well as composer B Sudarshan were also felicitated. Former prime minister Deve Gowda felicitated him.

The veterans were given a ceremonial welcome at Town Hall. The hall was buzzing with people from across the City, who had come to catch a glimpse of the maestros. The students of Adarsh Light Music Academy enthralled the audience with some wonderful compositions sung by S P Balasubramanium and some beautiful pieces by B Sudarshan.

The multi-layered orchestra was teeming with teenagers and youngsters who showcased their talent. S P Balasubramanium, B Sudarshan and Chandrashekar Kambhar were presented with Adarsharatna awards.

“I am humbled by the love and honour that I have got today and will really cherish this memory,” he noted. The audience was thrilled to see their idol on stage and some of them mentioned that it was a dream come true for them.

“I have grown up listening to SPB’s Hindi and Tamil renditions and getting to see him is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. I want to make the most of it. His voice has a unique quality and makes a song absolutely unforgettable,” said Prashant, who had come for the ceremony.

The orchestra played some popular Hindi, Tamil and Kannada songs sung by Balasubramanium and was applauded by the audience.

“There are some very talented musicians here and playing for maestros such as S P Balasubramanium is an achievement in itself. They are so professional and have retained the essence of every song. Adarsh Light Music Academy is doing a great job,” added Shakunthala, a member of the audience.

Songs like Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai and Tamil numbers instantly transported one to the nineties, where Balasubramanium sung some unforgettable numbers like Roja.

“It is so refreshing to hear the songs sung by Balasubramanium. He has such a great voice and some of his numbers are etched in my memory. It is a privilege to see
him being honoured today,” added Shakunthala.

The legends were honoured in the traditional manner — amid applause and cheers by the audience, who had been waiting to see them on stage.
