Three youths were arrested for allegedly assaulting two Northeast students at Kotla Mubarakpur in south Delhi on Sunday, police said.

The action was taken after a complaint was lodged by Yurngam Zimik. It was claimed that he and his friend Wungshungmi of Saini Basti in Kotla Mubarakpur sustained minor injuries in the attack.

“All the three assailants were identified by the complainants before they were arrested,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south). They are Shakeel Khan, a resident of Bhagwan Gali in Kotla Mubarakpur, Sudesh of Parsadi Gali in Kotla Mubarakpur, and Sushil of Mayur Vihar Phase-I.

According to Sharma, the incident took place when Yurngam and Wungshungmi went to their building’s terrace after a power failure on Saturday night.

“Some local students were already present there. There was exchange of words between some local tenants and the students on a trivial issue. After which, the students came down. Meanwhile, somebody informed the landlord,” Sharma added.
The landlord, who stays at Vasant Kunj, directed the building’s caretaker Shakeel to sort out the issue. On the landlord’s direction, Shakeel went to Yurngam’s room along with Sushil and Sudesh.

“However, they again indulged in some argument with Yurngam and Wungshungmi. They later slapped the students due to which they sustained some minor injuries,” Sharma said.

A case was lodged against Shakeel, Sudesh and Sushil after Yurngam and Wungshungmi were medically examined at the AIIMS trauma centre.
They face charges under sections 451 (house trespass) and 323 (causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.

Man held for murder
A man has been arrested at Swaroop Nagar in north-west Delhi for killing a cable operator over personal rivalry in Haryana earlier this month, police said on Tuesday.
Jasvir, 31, who hails from Haryana’s Sonipat district, was held after a tip-off.
“He was wanted for killing a man named Devendra,” a senior police official said.
A country-made pistol of .315 bore along with four live cartridges were also recovered from his possession.

During interrogation, Jasvir told police that he was also a cable operator in Sonipat and shot dead Devendra along with his associate Yogesh on August 10.
