MLA calls upon weavers to update skills

“The demand for hand looms has gone down with the advent of power looms. Weavers can sustain and face the competition in the market only if they enhance their professional skills by acquiring knowledge of the modern technology,” he said at a programme to distribute equipment for weavers, here on Friday.

Dr Sudhakar emphasised that weavers can sustain in the present competitive era only by imbibing the changing trends and developing techniques in their field of activity.

The legislator said that competition, obstacles and impediments exist in all the sectors and one can progress only by surmounting them. He disclosed that attempts to bring in an unit of Gokul Exports and Images Dyeing to the town went futile due to lack of infrastructural facilities.

There are rumours of forming associations with the sole intention of siphoning off the government funds. Such attempts will put even the real beneficiaries in trouble.

“All the industrial packages are being allotted to Doddaballapur only. The authorities concerned must evince in this area too and necessary efforts will be made to secure necessary sanctions,” Dr Sudhakar noted.

Assistant Director of Textiles Department, Lakshman, who spoke on the occasion  said that the Union and State governments offer training in new designs and technology to weavers. He explained the facilities available to the weavers under various welfare schemes formulated by government.

City Municipal Council member L Chowdareddy, Zilla Panchayat member Shafikuddin and others were present on the occasion.
