Athletes in Chintamani taluk pleased as Jhansi stadium gets new features

Jhansi stadium, located in the heart of Chintamani taluk, has been given a facelift.  Basketball, skating and volleyball courts, a tennis court and a football ground have been built. For athletes, a 400 metre track has been also been laid.

A pavillion with a modern seating capacity has also been built but work on toilets are still in progress.

Expenditure

Initially, a sum of Rs 45 lakh had been approved for development of the stadium, although only Rs 2.5 crore was eventually sanctioned.

The seating capacity of the stadium has been increased to 10,000.

Extra facilities

The additional facilities in the stadium have not only benefited the sportsmen and sports aspirants but also the general public who spend their leisure time here.

Members of the Government Polytechnic College, the Boys’ High School, the Government Boys’ Pre-university College and several educational institutions, which are located nearby, have taken advantage of the improvements.

Residents praised the stadium for its modern facilities. “When the work is complete, it will benefit local people to a large extent. The stadium will provide wide scope for the aspiring sportspersons,” they said.
