An elderly man suffered a heart attack at Sarojini Nagar police station when he and his two sons were being questioned in a matrimonial complaint filed by his daughter-in-law. He later succumbed during treatment, police said.

Dharam Chand, 70, of Sultanpuri in outer Delhi reached the south Delhi police station along with his sons around 6 pm on Saturday.

“One of his daughters-in-law – a resident of Sarojini Nagar – had filed a complaint against him and his son of physical assault. They were called in to work out a compromise. While being questioned, Dharam complained of chest pain. We rushed him to Safdarjung Hospital where, during treatment, he succumbed to the attack,” said a police official. The medico-legal report suggested that he died of a heart attack.

Meanwhile, an enquiry into the matter has been set up by senior police officer to ascertain the exact sequence of events.

“When Dharam complained of chest pain, all his family members were present at the spot. There is no foul play. Dharam was not an accused. He was called to settle the matter with his daughter-in-law,” said the officer.
