SSA all set to ensure incentives to every child

Data collected under 28 criteria will be uploaded online

To ensure that a child is not deprived of incentives under various government schemes, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Karnataka) is all set to collect information on every child in the State under 28 different criteria which will be then entered into a software and uploaded online.

SSA Karnataka has started collecting the data of every student from schools under the programme 'Unified District Information System of Education' (UDICE). The data is then consolidated at the cluster level, block level, district-level and finally the State-level.
The data collection programme has kicked off in 73,000 schools in the State which includes government, aided and unaided schools.

Information is collected in 28 points such as the students basic details, admission number, medium of instruction, disability if any, facilities received by the child under various programmes such as free textbooks, free uniform sets, free hostel facilities, free transport facilities and special training given to child among others.

Enhances transparency

Speaking to Deccan Herald, SSA Project Coordinator N Shivprakash says that UDICE enhances transparency. One can easily identify which child has received benefits under the RTE Act. It is very easy to keep track of a child and ensure that there are no school dropouts. Cases of double admission where a child enrolls to another school without acquiring transfer certificate from its previous school can also be solved.

"The information is entered offline. In the next phase, the information will be updated online. Updates with regard to the child will be entered in regular intervals," he says.
"At present, we have been asked to collect the details of students studying in classes 1 to 10. The process will continue in the future years," he adds.

In DK district

Data collection has kicked off in 226 aided, 268 unaided, 955 government and three central schools in the district at primary-level. At high school level, data will be collected from 107 aided, 211 unaided, 172 government and three central schools. There are 1452 primary and 493 high schools in the district, informed Shivprakash.
