Research centre in Western Ghats

Setting up such a centre is one of the 42 recommendations of the Western Ghats Task Force headed by Anant Hegde Ashisar. The Task Force submitted its interim report to the chief minister on Saturday.

The Task Force has recommended that the research institute can be established at Kudremukh township, which is vacant now, following a direction from the Supreme Court.
Yeddyurappa said the government will strengthen forest committees, empower them with training and financial incentives and involve them in forest protection. He said the government was keen to strike a balance between development and environmental protection.
