JD(S) plans strategy for coming State elections

Last Updated 30 August 2012, 18:25 IST

In an effort to prepare for the next Assembly elections in the State, the JD(S) decided on Thursday to prepare a list of probable candidates for the polls.

During a meeting, several party doyens, including party chief H D Deve Gowda, decided to form six teams to prepare lists of prospective candidates. The six teams will tour all 224 Assembly constituencies and prepare a list. Party leaders will then use the findings to prepare a final list.

Teams will likely begin their assignments early next week. The entire exercise may be completed by the end of September. Nearly 100 candidates will be chosen during the first phase. The intention is to announce party candidates well in advance so that they can prepare for the polls, sources said. The teams are also tasked with identifying drawbacks — if any, and suggest appropriate solutions. This will help strengthen the party, sources said. All teams will be led by former party ministers.

Deve Gowda said that the leaders discussed poll-preparations. The party State president H D Kumaraswamy has been authorised to chalk out the party strategy for the polls.

The meeting also decided to form various committees such as a campaign committee and manifesto committee.
