Residential blocks for workers to come up in industrial areas

While the review of the Master Plan of Delhi -2021 is still on, the union urban development ministry has finalised around 23 specific amendments in the plan. The finalised amendments majorly include relaxing norms for land use in industrial areas and hospitals.

The revised plan would introduce a residential component in the industrial areas in the Capital.

“Currently it is not permissible in the plan. But now the residential component is being added to it so that residential complexes could be constructed for the workers. With this the workers do not have to commute long distances for work,” union development minister Kamal Nath said.

The minister added that the amendment would also revise the definition of ‘industrial plot’. “The restriction of 50 workers would be reduced to 20 while defining an industrial plot,” Kamal Nath said.

Industry plot hospitals

The revised plan will allow construction of hospitals on industrial plots. “Hospitals of up to 100 beds are being proposed on industrial plots with certain conditions which include fire safety and other norms,” Kamal Nath said.

Relaxation for colleges

The revised master plan is also set to give relaxation to the colleges in the city to make more efficient use of their land. “The current plan fixes the area that could be used for the purpose of teaching, hostel and playground. The revised plan will relax norms for efficient use of land,” said Nath.

Land pooling policy

The policy of land pooling, which replaces the policy for ‘large scale acquisition of land’ and makes farmers partners in the development process is at an advanced stage of formulation and is likely to be finalised within a month. “We had asked the National Council of Applied Economic Research to advise us on the issue. They have submitted their report. We are confident the policy will be announced in a month.”
