This is with reference to the article entitled ‘A tale of two memorials’ (September 22, Spectrum).

I wish to draw the attention of the readers to the fact that Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai was a connoisseur of languages, and had in his collection, as many as 7,000 books from all parts of the world, including in languages such as Hebrew. When the family shifted to various parts of the world after the great man’s demise in 1963,  my father (Tukaram S Pai) a wellknown legal expert of his times, took the initiative to donate the collection to MGM College, Udupi.

The Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Foundation has been given an exclusive building too in the campus. It is a recognised institution to award a doctorate to students who take up higher learning.

M Narasimha Pai,
Grandson of Govinda Pai
