Extraordinary zeal on display

Bishop Cotton Academy of Professional Management held the investiture ceremony of its student council members and class representatives for the academic year 2012-2013. The programme commenced with an opening hymn by the academy choir, signifying the essence of leadership.

Principal Ranji Jacob John offered a warm welcome to the guests, students, old Cottonians and parents who were present on the occasion. With pride and a sense of achievement surging in their hearts, Cottonians listened with bated breath as the principal delivered a motivational speech, urging them to have a clear conscience while delineating their duties. He emphasised the need to uphold the motto ‘Nec Dextrorsum, Nec Sinistrorsum’, which means ‘Neither to the right nor to the left’ but straight towards the goal.

The Academy flag was presented to the general secretary and various posts were announced. The dignitaries present, administered the oath of office to the elected members. The oath was taken by general secretary Nandini A; assistant general secretary Hitaishini; cultural secretary Bibin Jacob; assistant cultural secretary Monica Rathod, sports secretary Manjunath, assistant sports secretary Benson and the prefects. “I’m very proud to be elected as the general secretary. I will ensure that I  uphold the mantle of responsibility with utmost honesty,” said Nandini A.

The distinguished guests also gave short speeches and congratulated all the members. Chief guest Matthew J Manimala stressed on the importance of honesty, integrity and loyalty as vital qualities for positions of dignity. Guest of honour Shashi Kumar  advised students to perform their duties sincerely and with dedication.

“It’s the first time I am holding a post with such a high level of responsibility. I’m very excited and am looking forward to do my best in all activities, especially cultural ones, that would bring out the best in Cottonians,” said a smiling Bibin Jacob, the newly appointed cultural secretary.

The day’s programme also had cultural events that showcased extraordinary talent and zeal of each Cottonian.The programme began with a group dance, which was followed by musical performances by students as well.
