The condition of the tiger which was captured from the HD Kote forest area more than a week ago continues to be critical due to severe anaemia and liver problem.

It needs to be treated and observed at least for two  weeks to asses the improvement in health condition.

Chief conservator of Forests and executive director of Mysore zoo B P Ravi has said in a release that the first faecal sample, meanwhile, has been collected on its arrival and sent to Lacones (Laboratory for the conservation of endangered species) Hyderabad for cross verification as it was reported that it had killed and consumed human flesh.

On September 2, the zoo doctors headed by Dr Suresh, assistant director along with Dr Dhanalaxmi, assistant professor, Veterinary College, Shimoga, Dr Prayag, and Dr Prashant examined the animal thoroughly and necessary treatment has been given to the tiger.

Multiple lancing was done under aseptic condition to clean the pus filled cavities. Fractured digit was removed surgically (Onychectomy) for faster healing.

Necessary medications like antibiotics, iron supplements, mineral and vitamin supplementation etc, are given to reduce the infection and early recovery, he said in the release.

“The Zoo management is continuously monitoring the health condition of the animal. The rescued male tiger is having multiple infected wounds throughout the body, may be caused by aggressive fight with other tigers few days back.

There are severe infected wounds with multiple pockets of pus accumulation in left forelimb and around base of the tail,” said Ravi.

There are inflamed regions in the right shoulder and right thigh region. It has sustained compound fracture of middle phalanx bone of fourth digit of right forelimb with infection and tissue loss. There are multiple healing lacerations on left nostril, back and right flank region, said the release.
