Condemning the corruption in the UPA government, the members of ABVP and YAS staged a protest by blocking the road at Hanumanthappa Circle in Chikmagalur on Tuesday.

The ABVP had called for the college bandh. The students shouted slogans against the UPA government and urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to tender resignation, for having failed to check corruption.

ABVP state leader Kumare Gowda said “the UPA government is filled with scams like scam in the allocation of coal blocks, Tatra truck, 2G spectrum, Commonwealth Games, Adarsh Housing and so on. The citizens have lost faith in the UPA government. The students should come together and raise their voice against corruption,” he added.

Dayananda Thiruguna said “the students should get ready to eradicate corruption.”

The bandh call given by the ABVP has received good response in Chikmagalur.

The students from 103 colleges have staged protests at 23 places. There was road blocks at nine places, said district convener Dayananda Gowda.

The students who had gathered in front of General Thimmaiah Circle formed a human chain and blocked the road.

Speaking on the occasion, the ABVP leaders alleged that Prime Minister was responsible for all the scams in the country. To check corruption, there was a need for strong Lokpal Bill in the country.

The members also urged the authorities to send Bangladeshi immigrants.
