A parade of outfits

The students of Dayananda Sagar Institutions brought out their fashionable and creative side during their cultural week, titled ‘This Is It’.

Organised by the student forum ‘Genesis’ and the cultural team ‘Arise’, the entire week was packed with many events. Each day, the students dressed according to a theme and the faculty members picked the  best dressed student in each and every class.

Deeksha Vasisth, from the ‘Arise’ team, said, “The main aim of the fest was to have fun and that’s exactly what we did.” On the first day, the girls had to wear floral prints and the boys had to stick to checks. The highlight of the day was the event ‘Cooking Without Gas’. The theme for the second day was ‘Red’.

The entire department of Information Science and Engineering (ISE), including the faculty, sported red clothes. The same day, the students also celebrated ‘Rose Day’, where they exchanged roses with their friends.

The following day, the theme was ‘Fashion Disaster’ for the students and ‘Black’ for the faculty. Each of the students showcased their creativity through their clothes. One of the students, who was selected as having the best outfit of the day, wore a formal shirt over a T-shirt with a bow and boxer shorts, with two different shoes. ‘Nail Art’, hairstyling and tattooing’ were some of the popular events of the day.

The fourth day’s theme was ‘Look Alike’, and two students had to come to college dressed in similar outfits. Many took it a step further, with an entire group dressed in the same attire. The teachers, however, portrayed their ‘go-green’ spirit by dressing up in green clothes. The events for that day were ‘Paper Dressing’ and sketching.

The students put in a lot of effort to design clothes from newspapers. As the week progressed, things took a serious turn with ‘Corporate Look’ being the theme for the day. One could see boys in formal shirts, ties and blazers, while the girls were in formal shirts, pants and skirts. The day was also packed with dance and music events.

The week ended with an ethnic day. Students came dressed in their traditional best. All the students got an opportunity to showcase their attire on the ramp and the day ended with dumb charades. “It was great to see the entire department take part with full enthusiasm. What made it even better was the participation by the faculty as well,” said Ravishankar, the HOD of the ISE department.
