‘Department of Public Instructions is due to supply 60 lakh work books to the students of V and VIII standard’ .

Even as the discussions are high over the need to bring in an overall change in the education system in the nation, the very fact that schools in our State have not yet received work books even after four months of the school re-opening, stands as a mockery to the education system.

As per the National Curriculum Framework-2012, a new syllabi was formed in the national-level for primary and high schools.

As per the new framework, the revised textbooks and work books were ought to be supplied to the schools in June, soon after the schools were started.

But unfortunately, the work books for V and VIII Std have not been supplied yet. As many as 357 schools in the State have not received the work books yet. With this, the teachers are left in lurch, wondering how are they supposed to handle the situation.

Competency lists have been given to Kannada, Maths, Science and Social Science, but they have not yet been given work books.

The government which has introduced English medium in government schools with an intention to set the students to face competition, is on othe other hand is playing with the education of students by not providing them with necessary study materials.

The Department of Public Instructions has not provided both competency lists as well as work books for English for V and VIII Std, complain the teachers.

“The children are provided with communicative English classes from I Std to IV Std. But the actual English lessons are taught to them from V Std. Competency list is very important for teaching as it guides the teaching process.

We have no idea what would happen to teaching without the competency list and work books,” says a language expert.

Teachers say that hey had prepared the work book in last February and had submitted to the State Textbook Association.

But work books have not been printed yet due to the co-ordination problem with the Department of Public Instructions and the State Textbook Association.

The Department of Public Instructions is due to supply 60 lakh work books to the students of V and VIII Std. The State Textbook Association has invited tenders for the publication.

As the tender process will be open for next one month, it would take at least two and held to three months to publish the books and supply them to schools.

By then, the first term of the school would be completed, so what would be the plight of the students, question the teachers.
