Senior citizen held for cheating

The Central Crime Branch sleuths arrested a 70-year-old man in a cheating case and recovered fake treasury challans, mortgage deeds, tampered property documents, mobile phones, a car and Rs 88,000 in cash.

The arrested, identified as Shanbag Murthy, is a native of Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu.

Shanbag who posed as owner of a finance firm, offered loans between Rs 10 crore and Rs 500 crore by pledging properties of the interested.

Shanbag has been accused of duping H N Halappa, president of Sri Basaveshwara Educational Society in Tiptur, after promising him to lend him a loan of Rs 10 crore.

He transacted business through Jayanna in Bangalore, who worked as a mediator.
Shanbag went through the property papers of Halappa on the pretext of giving him loan on pledging his property.

He created fake documents to show he has paid fees towards the registration of the property.

Shanbag also furnished a fake DD for Rs 10 crore and collected Rs one lakh as advance from Halappa.

After a few days, Halappa realised that he was taken for a ride, the police said.

Rowdy’s aides arrested

The CCB sleuths arrested three associates of a notorious rowdy Girish in the City on Wednesday.

They recovered cellphones, lethal weapons and a car from the arrested.

The arrested are Lakshma Gowda (29) of Mahalakshmipuram, Naveen (23) of Agrahara Dasarahalli and Rajesh (26) of J C Nagar.

The police arrested the three men near Vasanthpur Road, where they had planned to murder Thimmesh, a rival gang member and rob him of his valuables, the police said.

Nine held


In a separate incident, the sleuths arrested nine associates of rowdy Silent Sunil: Sridhar (36) of HSR Layout, Prabhakar (35), Y Devaraj (30), V Anand (38), Ramappa (36), Venkatesh (38), Venkatesh (45) all from Anekal, Raju Katak and Shankar Bahadur (31) from Nepal.

The police recovered a car, seven cellphones and lethal weapons from the nine men at Somasandrapalya in the City.  The nine men had hatched a conspiracy to murder the aides of Shekhar and Anand, their rivals, the police said.
