Aryan bags double; Babu triumphs

Aryan Goveas bagged a double in the AITA Championship Series junior tournament at the Topspin Tennis Academy courts here on Friday.

The second seed from Mumbai defeated top seed BR Nikshep of Karnataka 6-3, 6-2 in the boys’ under-16 singles final. He had  earlier won the U-16 doubles title in the company of Kunal Vazirani, getting the better of  Tarun Anirudh and PC Anirudh 6-3, 6-1 .

The singles final turned out to be a lop-sided affair as Nikshep struggled to find his rhythm against Goveas, who attacked from the word go. Goveas raced to a 3-0 lead and a spate of unforced errors by Nikshep saw the former clinch the first set  6-3. Goveas was in total control in the second and won 6-2.

Pranash Babu of Tamil Nadu pocketed the U-14 singles title, with a 6-3, 7-5  win over fourth seed Adil Kalyanpur of  Karnataka.

Top seed Sama Sathwika beat fourth seed M Madhumitha of Tamil Nadu 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 to clinch the girls’ U-14 title.

Girls: U-16: Pragathi Nataraj bt Sama Sathwika 6-3, 6-2.U-14: Sama Sathwika bt M Madhumitha 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

U-16 doubles: Madhumitha/ Rishika Ravi bt Sai Deepya/ Sama Sathwika 7-5, 6-3.
