Reading about throwing and stomping grapes in Western countries, which is done as part of festival and as a game has time and again excited people.

Now, for the first time, Mysoreans have the opportunity of experiencing the sense of excitement right in their city at the ongoing wine mela, organised by Karnataka Wine Board.

The video clippings uploaded in the internet where men, women, children stomping their grapes making the event more excited and entertaining have received huge hits making the viewers imagination run wild.

This has inspired the organisers of the wine mela to arranged an event at the festival being held at Maharaja’s grounds in city.

Drinking wine is no more considered a taboo and the successful wine melas and grape festivals which display an array of wine products by distilleries is becoming popular attracting hordes of people.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, the organisers of Gruha Shobe expo, where the wine mela is being held said that this was the first time that such an event is being organised, mainly to target the young crowd, who always prefer something different and unique.

The event sponsored by one of the companies Seagrams from Bangalore, will be held on September 8 and 9 between 4 and 8 pm.

A stage will be set and a huge barrel at the place filled with purple grapes. At a time five to six participants will be allowed to jump, stomp on the grapes as per their wish for five minutes. There is no age bar, anyone wishing to experience the same are welcome, he said.

Several articles published by the print media enhancing the benefits of drinking wine and its therapeutic effect has brought cheer among the people, who had thronged the wine mela held last year and had encouraged more companies to participate in the mela being held this year.

More than 10 companies from across the state have spread their stalls, offering samples to taste and giving impressive discounts and gifts to lure people.

Popular wine brands like Kinwa, Elite, Black buck, Nine Hills and others are selling the products at the mela which is very uniquely decorated and hope of doing good business this weekend.
