Parties broke rules by using printed posters

A day after eight candidates were sent show cause notices by the Delhi University election committee for using printed posters during campaigning for DUSU elections, three more candidates were sent notices on Tuesday, demanding reasons for violating the Lyngdoh Commitee guidelines.

The reply should be sent within 24 hours, failing which action will be taken. Angela Kishore, presidential candidate from Dr Ambedkar Missionaries Vidyarthi Association, and Neha Bhardwaj and Abhishek Pandey contesting for the posts of president and joint secretary respectively from Nationalists Students’ Congress were sent notices.

Though members of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad and National Students’ Union of India are claiming that no show cause notices have been received, election committee officials have confirmed that they were sent on Monday evening.

“They have been given time to reply by 8 pm on Wednesday. We don’t know why party members are denying they got the notices,” said a committee member.
Earlier, eight show cause notices were sent, four each to ABVP and NSUI.

Lyngdoh rules violation

“The show cause notices have been issued for using printed material for canvassing, which is a violation of the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines for student union elections,” said the chief election officer.

“No candidate shall be permitted to use printed posters, printed pamphlet, or any other printed material for canvassing. Candidates may only use handmade posters bought within the expenditure limit,” stated the notice.

ABVP member Rohit Chahal said a reply has been sent to the election committee on Tuesday.

“We did not get the notices, but we replied saying all candidates contesting the DUSU elections are using handmade posters. We have no idea who is putting printed material in their name,” he said.

NSUI spokesperson Amrish Ranjan Pandey said the party is not in a position to make any statement as they have not received the notices yet.

Notices have been sent to all candidates of both parties contesting for the four central panel posts of DUSU — president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary.
