Yeddyurappa hints he is on his way out of BJP

The BJP’s worst fears may soon come true with former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa dropping enough hints that he may quit the party.

He sent out a veiled message to the party that it should forget about retaining him, if it is not ready to give him a plum post (read the State party chief).

Speaking to reporters during a visit to the town to take part in a convention of the taluk women’s wing of the BJP on Monday, he said he would not continue in the party even for a second if his self respect was at stake.

He said he had several bitter experiences in the party all these days. But he had tolerated them for the sake of the party and the State.

“I can no longer tolerate such insult. I am hoping for good tidings, but there is a limit to my patience,” he said.

Yeddyurappa said his recent statement at a programme in Hirekerur that the State needed a pro-farmer government had been misinterpreted. It was seen as speaking against the government, but that was not so.

The former chief minister clarified that the present government was protecting the farmers’ interests, but felt that it needed to do more. Yeddyurappa said it was he who made Jagadish Shettar the chief minister and would never bring down the Shettar government.

He demanded that his loyalists in the ministry like M P Renukacharya and Rajugouda should be given better portfolios or additional responsibilities as they were capable of handling them. Yeddyurappa said he would speak to Shettar in this regard.

In his speech at the convention, he said he had to step down as chief minister due to the conspiracy by some leaders in his own party.

“I have suffered enough and cannot remain patient any more. I will tour the State and will become chief minister again if the people bless me,” he said.
