JD(S) seeks 3 subsidised LPGs to BPL families

Last Updated 20 September 2012, 19:17 IST

The JD(S) on Thursday demanded that the ruling BJP in the State should give at least three subsidized LPG cylinders a year to BPL families in view of the Centre’s recent decision to cap number of cylinders to six a year.

In his reaction to the nation-wide bundh organised by the BJP and other political parties, JD(S) State president H D Kumaraswamy said if the State government provides subsidy for three cylinders, then the total subsidised cylinders will increase to nine a year. This will be of great help to the poor in both rural and urban areas. The Congress-ruled State governments in the country have already announced to subsidized three cylinders, he added.

Similarly, the BJP government can provide relief to common man by reducing sales taxes on diesel and petrol, which is the highest in the country.

Instead, it has called for national-wide bandh. The BJP has no moral right to protest against the Centre’s moves, he added.
