Six held for murder

Police have cracked the Kurubarahalli murder case in less than 24 hours of the crime by arresting six people.

Four men had attacked Manikantha, a notorious thief, with lethal weapons as he was walking along the road at Kurubarahalli Thursday evening.

The North Division Police had formed two special two teams to apprehend the suspects. On Friday, they arrested R Girish, 26, of Subramanya Nagar, working with a private marketing firm; Avinash, 20, and Nagaraj, 27, both auto drivers from JC Nagar;  Santosh, 21, and Kumaresh, 21, both of Kurubarahalli and working as shift supervisors with a private transport company; and K Babu, 20, also of Kurubarahalli, working with a small private firm in Laggere.

Manikantha had 27 chain-snatching cases against him. He was wanted for robbery and dacoity in Basaveshwaranagar, Ulsoor, Ulsoor Gate, Nandini Layout, Rajaji Nagar and Subramanya Nagar police stations. He was arrested by the Central Crime Branch in January 2012 and released on bail on August 23.

Manikantha, jobless and a chronic alcoholic, had threatened the suspects with dire consequences if they refused to pay him extortion money, police said.
