In contrast to the persistent demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by the BJP, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) on Friday made it clear that it does not want the government to fall.

“I would like to reiterate here today that no political party has any intention that this government should fall. I would rather say that Singh should sleep without any tension in his mind,” said JD-U chief Sharad Yadav.

He also took exception of media reports which are hazarding guess over the survival of the UPA government.  “Some section of media is showing the number game for survival of the present Government of Manmohan Singh,” he said.

The JD-U also dissociated with the BJP’s sponsored bandh on September 20 and said: “This bandh was not organised by any political party. This bandh was organised by Vyapar Mandal, and we went there to support their cause in the interests of 25 crore people engaged in retail trade.”

However, he said fight against FDI will go on, “I would like to warn the Government that we are not afraid of whether notification is released or not as we will continue to fight against FDI in and outside Parliament.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has thanked the Union Government to award two central universities to Bihar along with a demand for changes in their names.  Central university at Gaya will be named as Central University, Gaya. The one at Motihari will be named after Mahatma Gandhi since Motihari has been Gandhiji’s workplace, he added.
