The  All India Tennis Association (AITA) president Anil Khanna on Saturday rebutted the corruption allegations made against him by Mahesh Bhupathi in a television channel interview, saying they are based on “ulterior motives.”

Khanna, who is in Manila for the Asian Tennis Federation meeting, said he will take an appropriate action after consulting with his lawyers.

“I am away from the country and have just learnt that Mr Mahesh Bhupathi has given an interview to a news channel making false and malicious allegations against me,” Khanna said in a statement.

“As I do not know the details of his comments I am not able to respond. I will do so after having gone through his statement.

“However, based on the information received by me, I would like to state that his allegations are based on ulterior motives.”

Appropriate action

“I will take appropriate action on my return and after consulting my lawyers and members of my executive committee,” Khanna said.

Khanna, however, refused to comment on the Karnataka High Court’s stay order on the two-year “ban” imposed on Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna from representing the country.
