<p>One person was sentenced to nine years imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 15,000 for abetting the suicide of his wife by fourth additional district and sessions judge H S Kamala. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The convicted has been identified as Mahadevaiah, a resident of Talkad in T Narsipur taluk.<br /><br />Mahadevaiah had married Chinnamma 12 years ago and used to harass his wife mentally and physically for dowry.<br /><br />Unable to bear the dowry harassment, Chinnamma doused self with kerosene and set herself on fire on July 26, 2010.<br /><br />She was admitted to K R Hospital here with third-degree burns for treatment. However, she succumbed to the burn injuries three days later.<br /><br />A case had been registered against Mahadevaiah at Talkad police station. <br /><br />Fourth additional public prosecutor H C Chiniwal argued the case.<br /></p>
