'Indians stuck with fair skin'

Dusky actress Sameera Reddy is upset at the cliched idea of beauty in the country and feels it is time people moved away from the mindset that only people with fair skin and light eyes are beautiful.

“Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and, unfortunately, in India we are pretty much stuck with fair skin, light eyes, straight hair,” the 29-year-old says.

Describing a typical Indian woman, Sameera says, “I think beauty is the actual Indian woman — warm skin, saanvli (dusky), dark eyes and just the Indian woman. Also, little bit not-size-zero, a little jhatak-matak (flashy), that for me is Indian beauty.”

Asked which actress, according to her, lights up the big screen, she says, “Madhuri Dixit for me. When she smiles, there is nobody who can match her. There is Kajol and I think, from the newer lot Kareena (Kapoor). She definitely has that X-factor.”

Sameera was last seen in Tezz and will next be seen in a cameo in Prakash Jha’s Chakravyuh.
