Last Updated 25 September 2012, 20:03 IST

BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi set the tone of the three-day national executive and national council meetings on Tuesday with an attack on UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Naqvi’s verbal volley was in response to Sonia Gandhi’s comment that the BJP was playing negative politics. “Sonia Gandhi said on Tuesday BJP is playing negative politics. She has started understanding Hindi but she is yet to understand the meaning of constructive and destructive politics. She should change her speech writer. There is a huge difference between constructive and destructive politics,” he said in Surajkund.

At  a time when ruling allies are apprehending that the UPA government might not complete its tenure that ends in 2014, the senior leader said that the BJP, too, was ready for a possible mid-term poll. Party president Nitin Gadkari is all set to get second consecutive term which would put him on the hot seat till December 2015.

Gadkari’s term ends in December. At the conclave in Surajkund,  beginning on Wednesday, the party’s National Executive will also pass a political resolution giving direction to the cadre before the assembly elections that are due in Gujarat, Himchal Pradesh and Tripura late this year.
