New railway minister C P Joshi on Tuesday assured a Congress delegation  that change of hands in the ministry will not anyway affect rail projects in West Bengal.

“All these projects are projects of UPA government headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and will be implemented,” said a Congress delegation led by former minister of West Bengal Manas Bhunia.

The delegation met him in Rail Bhavan.  The six-member Congress delegation led by Bhunia apprised Joshi of the politics in West Bengal and submitted a memorandum  that asks for assurance on the continuation of rail projects announced for West Bengal by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her successors in the ministry.

The delegation informed him that there is a strong campaign going on in the state that all rail projects announced in the last three years will be abandoned due to change of railway minister.

“The minister assured us that all rail projects announced with financial approval would be completed in time because these are UPA projects,” Bhunia said after the meeting.

About 17 projects at estimated cost of Rs 40,000 crore were  announced for the state by successive Trinamool Congress ministers including Mamata Banerje,  Dinesh Trivedi and Mukul Roy.
