A fast track court in the town has awarded ‘jail till death’ to a man who poisoned his one and half year old son to death last year.

Ravi alias Battery Ravi, a resident of Saraswathipuram slum in Hunsur, was charged with killing his son, Nishore on June 16, 2011.

After a 15-month trial, the fast court convicted Ravi of the offence and sentenced him to ‘jail till death.’ The evidence of a six-year-old boy helped adjudication of the case.

Ravi was married to Sumitra and the latter had been to her parents’ house after a fight between the couple. He refused to admit Nishore as his son.

No capital punishment

“You could have been awarded capital punishment. But that means you will die at one go. But you should experience the agony that the child suffered while dying.

Hence I am awarding jail till death,” the judge said while pronouncing the sentence.

The court said the convict cannot appeal before the President for reducing the term of imprisonment.
