Although the Kandavara tank, on  the outskirts of Chikkaballapur, is completely dry due to a lack of water, a carpet of green grass has started growing around it.

The Kandavara tank which is a small lake is located near Chikkaballapur and is a good tourist spot. The tank is a good place for picnics and day trips.

Kandavara is a self-contained discrete settlement or village but is Ward 14 of the Town of Chikkaballapur. Downtown Chikkaballapur is 2 km north of Kandavara, separated by a reservoir locally known as Kandavara Amanikere, and paddy fields downstream from the reservoir.

A few months ago, residents had complained that the lake following which the Chikkaballapur CMC and the district administration had assured that the tank would be developed in phases.

The district administration also agreed to set up boating facilities and develop it as a tourist centre as there was water in the tank at the time. However, no work materialised.
The work has now began with the landscaping of the periphery of the tank.  Hundreds of citizens come to the banks  of tank, both in the morning and evening. The place is free of pollution as it lies on the outskirts of the City.
