Police are yet to nab a cash replenishment agency vehicle’s driver who allegedly fled away with Rs 51 lakh after sedating three employees in north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Saturday.

According to P Karuna-karan, deputy commissioner of police (north-west), three teams have been formed to nab 35-year-old Ompal Singh. “Our special staff is also working on the case,” said Karunakaran.

On Sunday, cops also visited Singh’s rented accommodation at Nand Nagri in north-east Delhi, which he vacated five days ago. His relatives and friends are also being questioned.
There were four persons in the vehicle, including custodians Yogesh and Hemant, and security guard Brijesh, when the incident took place. They collected Rs 81 lakh from Inderlok to replenish ATM machines.

On the way, Ompal offered them sweets laced with sedatives. His plan briefly went awry as the three men realised that they had been drugged and tried to wrench control of the vehicle — a Maruti Suzuki Eeco, but ended up crashing it near Jahangirpuri Metro station.

All the occupants of the vehicle were injured, but Singh managed to pull himself out, and escape with the cash.

A case under section 328 (administering stupefying drugs with intent to hurt) has been registered with Mahendra Park police station over the statement of Singh’s companions. The cash was being carried for cash handling agency Logicash Solution, and the van had been hired in the first week of September.

Before Yogesh, Hemant and Brijesh lost consciousness, they managed to replenish three ATM machines of two banks. Their last stop was a booth near Kirori Mal College at 6.30 pm.
