Union Minister for Corporate Affairs and Power M Veerappa Moily said that the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments should sort out the row over distribution of Cauvery water through a dialogue.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said there is a need to develop good relations with the neighbouring states. Even the Supreme Court has directed the State government to comply with the order of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) to release 9,000 cusecs of water daily till October 15.

“The Chief Ministers from Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu should discuss the issue and solve it. It is not right to blame it on lawyers and beauracracy. There is a need for continuos follow up of the issue. The State should handle the issue carefully and should be vigilant over the issue,”  he said.“The row over distribution of water will be solved once the region gets rainfall,” Moily added.

Restructuring

To a query, Moily said that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the scheme for financial restructuring of state power distribution companies (Discoms). Accordingly, various measures will be chalked out for achieving the financial turn around of the discoms by restructuring their debt.

“The accumulated losses of the state discoms are estimated to be about Rs 2.46 lakh crore,” the minister said.

International tag

Moily said that the international tag on Mangalore airport will be announced within two months. At the same time, the cargo complex will also be ready.
