Partners of CPM in the Left Front shared a dais with its rebels, who had  gathered to slam policies of the Left Front and sought to discover a new path of left unity different from what the CPM has been pursuing. A convention organised on Sunday under the banner of the All India Left Co-ordination (AILC) had on its dais leaders from the Left Front partners including CPI, Forward Block and RSP.

The convention, which was mainly organised by the CPIML-Liberation, was attended by Left Co-ordination Committee leader of Kerala K S Hariharan, CPM-Punjab (rebel group of CPM in Punjab) Mangatram Pasla, SFI-JNU (group expelled from SFI) leader Prasenjit Bose. The convention also passed a resolution to condole the death of Kerala Marxist leader T P Chardrashekharan, whose killing generated a huge political controversy in the state.

Left Front leaders Debabrat Viswas (Forward Bloc) and Abni Roy (RSP) did admit that policy deviations by the Left Front government led to election debacle in West Bengal and Kerala and they favoured a broader front of left forces to fight the “economic policies” and “repressive measures” of the UPA government.

CPI leader D Raja said that election debacle should not be seen as the decline of Left.
CPIML-Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya asserted that the BJP-led NDA is trying to position itself as the anti-corruption champion despite the fact its governments in states are not less corrupt.

The AILC has declared a programme of rallies and protests against the UPA government. It has extended support to the all India strike called by trade unions in February next year.
