Spurthi puts it across Eetee

Wild card Spurthi Shivalingaiah stunned Eetee Mehta 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the $10,000 ITF Bidar Open women’s Futures championship at the Police training school courts here on Monday.

The Bangalore girl braved foot blisters to come up trumps in a long match.
India’s Prarthana Thombare and Ukrainian teenager Oleksandra Korashivilli too caused upsets on the day. Prarthana rallied to pack off eighth-seeded Pei Chi Lee of Taipei 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
