'Sujala scheme misused in five Gram Panchayats'

Last Updated 01 October 2009, 18:21 IST

Addressing a press conference at Suddhimane here on Thursday, Sathish said that the central government is sanctioning sufficient funds for the implementation of Sujala and other schemes through Vidarbha package. However, the state government is misappropriating funds by implementing schemes through private organisations, he charged.

Sathish said that scheme benefits are not distributed to beneficiaries properly.
In the meantime, private organisations, which were entitled to the implementation of schemes, are deriving benefit from schemes, he added.
He charged that private agencies are preparing the list of beneficiaries unscientifically without consulting gram panchayats.

They distribute poor variety saplings at a price, which is 5-10 times higher than the market price, under the government scheme, he said. While mango saplings of poor variety were sold at Rs 85, cardamom saplings are distributed at Rs 18.50 and chilly at Rs 12.30, he added.

Sathish said that the Zilla Panchayat president has been urged to withhold the list of beneficiaries, which was prepared unscientifically.
Congress leaders Jagadish Gowda, Nuggi Manjunath and Raghavendra were present.
