Chandigarh driver Sunny Sidhu, six times winner of Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm, on Sunday bowed out of the 14th Maruti Suzuki Raid de Himalaya due to mechanical failure on day one of the competition, which saw miraculous escapes of some rallyists from four mishaps.
Sunny, a top contender for the Raid crown, faced engine trouble in the third competitive stage of the event today from Chimni to Khanag. He was driving a Mahindra XUV for Team Mahindra at the event.
“I am certainly disappointed,” said Sidhu.
Meanwhile, the day one of the Raid saw as many as four mishaps.
Chandigarh rallyist Simranjit Singh (navigator Karan Narang), Lt Col R S Rai (navigator Lt Col Dahiya), Kishore Thakur (navigator Mansingh Jaswal) and Nitesh Kumar (Bangalore), driving a mobike, were the affected.
