Last Updated 08 October 2012, 16:40 IST

It is very sad to note that the voters list dispatched by the Election Commission is filled with mistakes, regretted MLA U T Khader.

Addressing a press meet at the Congress office on Monday, Khader said that he was disappointed to see the voters list as names, booth numbers, voters details, ration card details have been wrongly entered in the list. “The deadline to enter names in voters list for Mangalore zone needs to be extended to another eight days, as delay is caused due to the mistakes,” he said.

It has also come to notice that some of the voters lists prepared by schools have not yet reached the commission. This is a serious issue and needs immediate attention, he said.
"I have met Tasildhar and Deputy Commissioner with regard to the matter, who have assured to do the needful. I shall meet the election commissioner soon," said Khader.

The district administration will open centers in schools to add the names of new voters (people who complete 18 years in January 2013). All new voters need to enroll their names. Schools and Colleges should sensitize students on the importance of voting. Awareness programmes, street plays will also be organised, he said.

Repair of roads will be delayed as the quarries have been ordered to stop operations. This order needs to be revoked in view of development. The repair can start only in December. In case funds have not been utilised for the road repair purpose, then they may have to be returned, he said.

Commenting on Cauvery water issue, Khader said that the state government failed to show interest when the Supreme Court ordered  Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu from September.

With regard to hike in petroleum and diesel prices, Khader pointed out that  Karnataka government is charging high tax on petroleum products.

President Pranab Mukerjee will inaugurate the Suvarna Vidhana South on October 11, he informed.
